UW Madison's campus is filled with beautiful buildings
This high school senior knew what he wanted for his photoshoot: campus buildings, and to showcase his musical talents. He plays the drums, guitar, and saxophone, but decided to highlight the saxophone for this session. He also was inspired by the buildings near Memorial Union, since he plans on studying architecture in college. He even hopes to be a Badger and attend UW Madison next year.
Since we used Memorial Union as a place to meet up, that's where we started our photoshoot. He was particularly happy that I chose to start in front of the Red Gym, since he felt inspired by the red buildings on campus. Since we were so close to Lake Mendota, we also grabbed a couple shots by the water.
Monochromatic aesthetic thanks to Memorial Union
I loved how his shirt matched the color of Memorial Union. There was just enough pops of green and black to create some visual interest, but having this senior stand in front of the union's beige walls created a particularly artsy aesthetic.
Outfit change and another red building
After a simple outfit change, we strolled around campus near Bascom hill to find more nooks and crannies for great senior photos. I loved that Science Hall has a steep hill in front of it. It made the perfect spot for some sitting poses. This senior was super comfortable in front of the camera, and had no worries about all the students walking by. Every time I told him to sit or stand somewhere, he basically would do the exact pose I had in mind without any further direction. This made it super easy to find a spot, grab a few pictures, and then move on to the next place. That really added a lot of variety to his final gallery, since we were able to stop in so many places in the hour long session.
Appropriately, we got out the saxophone in front of Music Hall.
As I was walking around the photoshoot area before our session, I fell in love with all the ivy climbing the walls of Music Hall. I thought it would be the perfect place to highlight his musical abilities, and it turns out he's even performed in there before. He seemed to like the idea too. I loved how in the background of some of the photos, you can see concert posters as well.
UW Madison's most unique building: Humanities
As a former UW Madison student, I am all too familiar with the weird building that is Humanities. In fact, I had one semsester where EVERY SINGLE CLASS was in this building. It can be a little confusing to get around, and I'm not sure that it's "aesthetically" the most beautiful to look at, but it's weird lines and angles were perfect for a senior studying architecture!
Music Notes for a Musician
To end our session, we took a couple photos in front of a unique artwork by Memorial Union and the Red Gym. I loved that it had music notes on it, so I thought it would be fun to line up his saxophone in front of them to make it look like they are coming out of the instrument. You might not notice it right away when looking at the image, but I think it adds a really fun element to the photo.
