This iconic mural will soon be gone,
therefore, I knew I had a limited time to do a photoshoot with it. So, I set up a couple's session by the mural on Monroe Street.
We started by getting some photos straight in front of it, where you could see the whole word "Madison" in full view.
While the obvious focus of this mural is the word "Madison," I still love the colorful backdrop it provides in general. I wanted to also get some shots closer up against the brick wall.
I wanted to change up the angle some more, so I headed to the right of the mural, where I could put some more distance between the building and myself. I like how the roof of the building is now at an angle, which creates some more fun visual interest to the photos and some variety in the final gallery. One of the best things to do in a couple's session is to get them moving to get some fun action shots, so I had them run and walk around, and they even did a little dance.
Lastly, I wanted to do something that tested my creativity a little bit, and thought it would be cool to get some movement from passing cars. I lowered my shutter speed as much as possible so that my camera would capture the movement. We waited as several rounds of cars passed by, and I really love the way these turned out.
Next up... ice cream from the Chocolate Shoppe.
After I felt the mural had been fully covered, we continued down Monroe Street to the Chocolate Shoppe. It was a really beautiful late spring evening, so it was BUSY. My couple felt more comfortable taking photos across the street at Colectivo, so we brought our ice cream over there.
Taking photos outside of Colectivo was perfect because it was already closed, so there weren't any people watching us from inside or constantly going in and out. My couple was able to enjoy their ice cream in peace, and focus on each other while I photographed this moment in time. The vibes at Colectivo were beautiful as well. I love the benches that they have on the windowsills and all the flowers they had potted.
We finished the session by meandering around the perimeter of the building. We got a few more action shots of the couple walking hand in hand and just hanging out enjoying each other's company. We all really loved the red flowers in these wooden containers, so I had the couple sit against the planters.
Some of my favorite photos from the entire session happened right at the end. Orange is one of my favorite colors, so I was very excited to see this orange brick wall, cute patio chairs, and the Edison string lights. While the couple finished up their ice cream, I photographed them from as many angles as I could think of. I really love the photos I got through two sets of windows, as I'm always a fan of photos where the subject is framed in a unique way.
This was such a fun photoshoot for me. I love when my clients have something they can do during their session, besides just posing for the camera. It not only creates unique portraits but makes it more fun and memorable for the clients as well. I would love to do more date night photoshoots and feel like this inspired me to think of so many fun couple's session ideas.
