Winter this year felt longer than ever, which is why I was extra happy when spring arrived. When the owner of Four Acres Flowers in Deforest, WI contacted me to let me know about her tulip farm, I couldn’t wait to utilize the space for portraits. It seemed like the perfect place to set up some spring minis.
So, at the beginning of May, I held 20 minute sessions at the tulip farm. There were several fun props set up for clients to use, including a cute seating area made of hay bales and flower pots. Holland is definitely the inspiration for this tulip farm, so the props reflect that, like the dutch clogs and windmill seen in the background of several photos.
My first clients posed in the seating area, and I am obsessed with how much color is in these photos. These ladies understood the assignment by wearing bright colors that complimented the scenery.
While this was a group of sisters, their mom, and one baby, the main focus was on mama and baby girl. She was only six weeks old - still a newborn! It was so sweet seeing the mom cradling her baby while roaming the aisles of flowers. The glowing light from golden hour made it only more magical.
Of course we had to get some shots of grandma with her new granddaughter too, and the images are just so sweet!
We spent a good chunk of time making sure to get lots of pictures of the newborn posed amongst the tulips. The cutest photos included her bundled in a blanket inside a basket in the midst of all the flowers. We’re only showing photos here where her face isn’t included - but they’re still so cute! I love all the detail photos we got. You can never miss pictures of baby feet!
My next clients were pros in front of the camera. We made sure to get photos with different combinations of these three family members as well as individual shots of each.
The light was really shining through the trees at this point, creating such a dreamlike effect. I really love the pictures of them walking through the aisles, enjoying their time together.
The kids really liked this wheelbarrow full of tulips, so we made sure to get some photos in front of that, as well as having the whole family sit amongst the tulips.
None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of Erin and Carlos, the masterminds behind Four Acres Flowers, in Deforest, WI. This year 40,000 tulips were planted, and next year the number will be doubled! I can’t wait to see this beautiful flower farm continue to grow in the future, and to do more photoshoots there. In the summer they will also have zinnias and sunflowers, so make sure to give them a follow so you know when to pay them a visit!
